My blog posts about Penang trip. Below are the summary of all the posts and some random photos I shot in Penang. Penang is a nice place for food, nature and historical places. 3 days trip is definitely not enough to try all the nice food and visit all the awesome places in Penang. Will visit again in the near future. Anyway me and my classmates went to a trip to Penang, so stay tuned for more Penang’s posts.
Penang, also called Penang Island, Malay Pinang or Pulau Pinang, island of Malaysia, lying in the Strait of Malacca off the northwest coast of peninsular Malaya, from which it is separated by a narrow strait whose smallest width is 2.5 miles (4 km). Penang Island is roughly oval in shape. It has a granitic, mountainous interior—reaching a high point of 2,428 feet (740 metres)—and is ringed by narrow coastal plains that are most extensive in the northeast, where Malaysia’s chief port, George Town, uses the sheltered harbourage of the inside strait. Long one of Asia’s busiest ... (100 of 520 words)Penang, also known as the pearl of the orient, is one of the most touristic locations of Malaysia. The island (285 square meters) is situated on the northwest side of the Peninsular Malaysia. There are loads of activities and sights on the island. Hanging around on the beach is also considered a fine option. About 700.000 people inhabit Penang Island, of which 59% are Chinese, 32% are Malay and 7% are Indian (2% are of other origin). The state of Penang has a population of 1,5 million (of which 43% are Malay and 41% Chinese). Penang has an eventful history; the diversity of the inhabitants clearly indicates this. Penang is especially known as the best place to enjoy wonderful local dishes; it is seen as the food capital of Malaysia. There are many hotels and resorts on the island, most are located in and around the city of Georgetown and around the towns Batu Ferringhi and Tanjung Bungah.
Arousing 8 am in the morning, as much as it sounds super tough on mundane days, to most of us it is a delectation to do it when you ken you are about to depart to the unknown. As tourism students we are always alacritous to learn more about incipient places, specially when it comes to discovering incipient tastes!
Our peregrination commenced early in the morning, heading to our university way afore classes start. Arriving at campus in the morning afore everyone else always gives me a weird sensation of something missing, some kind of eerie vacuousness fills the space while everything is closed and the campus radio is yet to play its first musical composition.
But if arousing early in the morning did not dismay us intrepid Tourism students, neither would the faint melancholy of optically canvassing our campus empty and silent
Penang is iconic for it street food, from char kway teow (wok-fried rice noodles) to pasembor. There’s never quite enough room to sample all the food there is to savour in Penang, but you can bet we always try.
To help you on your discovery of must-try Penang delicacies, start off with our list of personal favourite street stalls.
1. Char Koay Teow
A familiar dish for Singaporeans. Char Koay Teow is a national favourite in Malaysia and Singapore. Of Course, Penang has their fair share of famous char koay teow stalls with their own signature taste. What I appreciated most from Penang-style Char Koay Teow is the flavor of ‘wok hei’, and the freshness of the ingredients. Also, going for the duck eggs option did give a richer taste to each mouthful of noodles. I can’t vouch for Lorong Selamat’s Char Koay Teow to be the best in Penang, but it is definitely worth a visit.
2. Mee Goreng
Mee Goreng is an Indian Muslim dish. The famed Bangkok Lane Mee Goreng presents a substantial plate of noodles with generous portions of cuttlefish, potatoes and beansprouts. It is stir-fried with a tangy concoction of tomato, chilli and soy sauce. This would be a pleasure for those who favor quantity over quality. Nonetheless, a plus point for fancy display of wok skills and rhythmic tossing of noodles.
Tourist attraction: Penang Hills and Batu Ferringhi Beach
For the fun loving and outdoor enthusiast , there are numerous beaches that is worth to explore into such as Batu Feringghi, Teluk Bahang, Muka Head and etc.Batu Ferringhi is the top choice among beach lovers. For them, it’s the beloved place that they called lasting peace and paradise. Located about 2 Km away from Tanjung Bungah, the beach is about 20 to 30 minutes ride from Georgetown.
Penang is a perfect place for all vacationist, young and old alike. And with the scores of Penang Tourist Attractions that showcase the culture, the beauty& the charm on this lovely island - It is a trip worth visiting and remembering.
No Way! Is the answer, if you say that you can explore the whole of Penang Island in just days or even in weeks. There are simply too many great places to go, to explore and to discover.
Seven whole holy hours stuck in a metal fridge that moves, with extra cold air conditioning, and very little leg space. I could describe our trip as a very harsh battle to conquer a little of the sleep and rest that has been deprived from us by waking up at 6am, but I would not be fair in calling it harsh, everything you do with your friends most always becomes enjoyable, even if a battle in the cold!
After surviving through the harsh Plusliner winter and arriving in beautiful penang, we checked in on our hostel and set to Gurney Drive promenade with a promise of lots of food options, either inside a shopping mall, Gurney Plaza, offering many well-known food chain restaurants, or on the street, at one of the many food stalls along the Gurney hawker center.
Penang Famous Tourist Attractions
After a full night‘s sleep at The Syok at Chulia we parted at 9am to check out the famous Penang Hill. And as its own saying say, “You‘ve never been to Penang if you haven‘t been to Penang Hill“. By leaving in the morning we managed to skip the long waiting lines, going straight to the beautiful railway ride up the bukit.
The ride is exciting: to feel the air getting colder while all sounds around you slowly fade,as you rears get blocked by rising/increasing to higher ground, and away from the hurrying/very busy city.
A cooling environment in the hot and humid weather of Penang. Penang Hill or affectingly known by locals as “Bukit Bendara”, is one of the only cool places to visit in Penang. A hill with elevation of about 833 m (2723 ft) has proved that it is one of the main attractions not only to the foreigner but also locals. The cooling and serenity of the hill especially when you are at the peak will provide a much needed calm and relaxation from the hot and bustling stress by the city of George Town.
The hilly and forested Penang Hill are founded by Sir Francis Light during his pack horse track back in the year 1788. However, it was during the 19th century that construction is carried out to build the hill into a place well accessible by local or even tourist alike which brings about the funicular railway construction at the cost of about $1.5 Million.
Since everyone is sharing the popular Penang murals, I try to spot some other uncommon murals along Penang’s streets.
There are so much to tell about the places of interest in Penang that has developed into a unique & special characteristic.
And if you really scrutinize every nook and cranny of Penang, you'll find that it's amazing that Penang Tourist Attractions has it all - Exotic tropical beaches, famous heritage trail, exiting nature parks, multi-cultural worshippers places & of course - beautiful gardens & hills. Killing few birds in one stone is all I can describe.End of the day,it’s an eve opener. Once in a lifetime experience( for stuffs which will not happen without certain parties xD). Anyway the beach is a picturesque. There’s no need to hold a barbecue party there to enjoy there, all you need is a couple. Not a couple of friends, but a real couple. (cryptic) Couple walking happy to and fro on the shore… Even tho it’s at night, who cares anyway? It’s just the couple. Here are some pictures we took with our friends during the Penang Trip:

Hill system with hill resort (highest point 833m above sea level) about 6km from city centre of Georgetown. Bukit Bendera is 735m above sea level and can be reached by Penang Hill Railway, a funicular railway The railway journey (2km) takes about half an hour. Alternatively there is a 5.1km tarred road. It’s also a popular hiking route and takes about 2 to 3 hours hike to reach the top.
